Description:
Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), also known as folate hydrolase 1 (FOLH1), is a transmembrane glycoprotein consisting of an extracellular C-terminal, transmembrane structure and a cytoplasmic N-terminal. The extracellular region accounts for 95% of the entire glycoprotein and is the main site for recognition by peptides, aptamers, small molecules and antibodies. Current studies have shown that PSMA is overexpressed on the surface of more than 90% of prostate cancer cells, and its expression level is higher in advanced and castration-resistant patients' cancer cells, while it is lower in normal tissues such as small intestine, prostate or other tumors. With the increase of malignancy degree of prostate cancer, the expression level of PSMA on prostate cancer cells also increases accordingly. Therefore, PSMA is a characteristic molecule of prostate cancer cells, which is helpful for screening hidden prostate cancer cells in vivo.
