Description:
IFN (interferon) binds to its receptors on target cells, which mediates its biological effects. The type I interferon receptor is composed of two subunits, IFNAR1 and IFNAR2. After binding to type I IFN, IFNAR1 activates the JAK-STAT signaling pathway, which is crucial for regulating growth, survival, differentiation, pathogen resistance, and antiviral immunity. This activation leads to the phosphorylation of many proteins, including JAK, TYK2, and STAT proteins. Type I IFN can also form an active IFNB1 receptor by itself and activate signal cascades that do not involve the activation of the JAK-STAT pathway.
